Klein and Brown sat motionless watching the zombies for a few minutes. It was hard to make out what they were doing in the dark, but from the sounds of it they were devouring something or someone. Klein had counted 16 of the undead. Some looked to be former housewives and children. He had noticed, from what it was wearing, that one was a doctor.
Klein had tried to get some backup, but the other teams were busy with zombies of their own. Klein and Brown had faced packs of zombies before, but never anywhere close to this size. They loaded their guns, both their primary MP5 submachine gun and M1911 pistol sidearm.
“Ready?”, Klein asked looking towards his partner.
“Yeah.” Klein heard a bit of hesitancy in Brown’s voice.
They turned the flashlights on the end of their guns on and opened fire. Almost immediately the bullets ripped through the zombies rotting flesh. Six zombies fell limp to the ground. The zombies who weren’t taken down started making their way towards the source of the gunfire, tripping over their fallen comrades in the process.
They were moving faster than Klein had anticipated, giving him no time to reload. He drew his pistol and took aim at the closest zombies’ head, and pulled the trigger.
“SHIT!”
Klein looked to his right, only to see Brown laying on his back, struggling with his bulletproof vest. It had gotten caught on a shard of the metal dumpster and he couldn’t get it free. Four zombies were making their way towards him, and quick.
